Frames per Second (FPS)

Just like in the old days of cinema when movies were shot on film, your smartphone captures tiny micro-moments of action at a high speed. Each individual moment is captured as a single photograph or frame. FPS refers to how many single frames are captured for every second of video. The higher the frame rate or FPS, the smoother the picture and the larger the file size. American TV has just under 30 frames for every second of action. If you plan to film action, you’ll want your smartphone camera to film at a rate of at least 30 FPS. If you plan to then turn it into slow motion, you’ll need the capacity to film at 60 to 70 FPS so that your slowed-down video renders smoothly rather than choppily.
